What Elise said I have lots of favorite Elise Patkotak columns, but Wednesday s may be number one. If the private sector can insure our health care better than government can, Elise asks, why aren t the private sector advocating politicians declining their government insurance and rushing to buy their insurance from the private sector. That may be the best argument for single payer health care I ve ever heard. Does the ideal, "all men are created equal," which we commemorate Saturday, apply to all Americans or only to elitist politicians? Now, I can t stop people from slavishly following political ideology and asserting the private sector always works better than government. But I can point out that big government liberal, Eddie Burke, rejected my argument, that we leave it to the private sector and allow people like Eddie to send their permanent fund dividends to Israel instead of confiscating the taxpayers money to reward the only Middle East country with both weapons of mass destruction and a history of attacking the United States. Eddie also rejected my proposal for "national security reform." Like President Moncler Site Bush s proposed "social security reform," NSR follows the principle that the money belongs to the taxpayers, not the government. Under NSR, all taxpayers would get vouchers. The taxpayers could choose to spend their money on education, poverty programs or helping the poor in other countries. Or they could spend their vouchers on war. Or they could invest their money in the stock market. Eddie didn t like that idea and instead trusted elitist politicians who tell us that war is good for us. There seem to be lots of Eddie Burkes out there private sector advocates or big government advocates whose faith in the effectiveness of government coincides very nicely with what they want the government to do and not to do. Lisa Murkowski wrote recently in the Daily News print edition that Moncler Red Vest she wonders if we can afford government health care. Maybe Lisa ought to consider whether we can afford ongoing wars in Iraq and Afghanistan, handouts to countries that attack us, and the School of the Americans/WHINSEC that trains foreigners Moncler Outlet Reviews in torture and terrorism. Now, the Eddie Burkes of the world like to argue that there should be no price tag on protecting us from terrorists. If you accept that argument, why not accept the argument there should be no price tag on protecting us from catastrophic illness? Let s compare the number of Americans killed in our country from terrorists and the number of Americans killed in our country from lack of decent medical care. Which is more likely to kill you?
