|French fashion house Chanel saves Scots cashmere mill from closure saving 176 jobs LUXURY fashion brand Chanel has bought a cashmere mill in the Scottish Borders after its owners went into administration. Chanel has taken over Barrie Knitwear in Hawick, securing the jobs of its 176 staff. Dawson International, which ran the mill, appointed administrators in August after the company was requested to pay a 129million debt in its pension scheme. The mill manufactures cashmere clothing for fashion houses and department stores around the world. Chanel fashion president Bruno Pavlovsky said: "The acquisition of Barrie is all the more natural as the factory has Moncler Gillet worked with us for more than 25 years, producing cashmere knitwear including Chanel s iconic two tone cashmere cardigans. "Through this acquisition, we reaffirm our commitment to traditional expertise and craftsmanship, and our wish to safeguard their future and support their development." French luxury labels target India NEW DELHI: Targeting India s rich and famous, top French luxury brands are working out their plans to open outlets in major cities including Delhi and Mumbai. CEOs of at least a dozen French labels converged last week to find out the policy fine prints about opening their shops in best of India s fashion and lifestyle hubs and interacted with their potential local partners and senior bureaucrats. "We would be expanding selectively since we need to find appropriate retail environment for our range," Chanel India Managing Director Xavier Bertrand said.
